The Tirana Mosaic is a remarkable archaeological discovery that has been estimated to date back to the 3rd century AD. It is thought to have been part of a Roman villa, referred to as the ‘Villa rustica’ – which would usually refer to a large agricultural estate or latifundium.

In 1972, an additional discovery was made in the area in the form of a 5th and 6th Paleo-Christian Basilica. This majestic structure was filled with geometrical designs and depictions of poultry and fish, indicating it’s wealth and importance during this period.

Nowadays, these ruins form what is known as the Archaeological Complex of the Mosaic of Tirana. Entrance to this fascinating destination is free and visitors can find information about its history in both English and Albanian languages. The site also offers panoramic views of Tirana’s cityscape, making for a perfect location for photography enthusiasts.

Due to its immense cultural significance, many experts consider this complex an important part of Albania’s history and culture. As such, it has become one of Tirana’s must-see destinations for locals as well as tourists alike looking to explore the city’s long and rich past.
