Qafë-Shtamë or Qafshtame National Park is an incredible area of natural beauty, situated just north of the capital city Tirana and east of Kruja. Established in 1996, this park covers a total area of 2000 hectares, featuring stunning mountain views with its predominantly pine forested slopes and oak woodlands. It is also home to a number of small lakes and larger water sources.

The areas unique biodiversity includes many species such as brown bears, wolves, foxes and other fauna which are often spotted around the park. In addition to this, there are also plenty of bird species that populate the region, making it a great spot for bird watchers to visit.

The perfect way to explore Qafë-Shtamë National Park is by taking the road from Kruja to Burrel which passes through it at altitude about 1250 metres. This road offers amazing views throughout its journey and has become increasingly popular amongst hikers in recent years due to its peacefulness and tranquillity. On your way you can marvel at the beautiful landscapes which consist of lush forests, mountain meadows, dramatic cliffs and wildlife which make it a truly special place not too far from the bustle of Tirana city centre.

In addition to exploring on foot there are also bike trails located within the park allowing adventure seekers to discover even more hidden gems. Even for those who don’t want an active experience there are plenty of spots throughout the park where you can sit down and admire nature in all its glory or maybe even enjoy a picnic lunch!
